Damp Services
Damp problems come in several forms:
Rising damp:
Rising damp occurs when the original damp proof course is bridged due to high ground level or plaster coming into contact with a solid floor. It can also be due to the breaking down of the DPC caused by movement of the property over a period of time.
Treatment
Treatment includes low pressure Siliconate injection and lowering of exterior ground levels. Removing the effected plasterwork and re-plastering is often a very necessary part of damp proofing.
Penetrating Damp:
The various causes of penetrating damp include leaking gutters, exterior cracks, defective flash bands, lead flashing or brick pointing.
Treatment
Treatment involves the replacement of gutters and defective flash bands, lead flashing or brick pointing
Condensation:
Condensation is mainly due to high humidity levels, build up of moist air and lack of proper ventilation, resulting in black mould spots.
To eliminate condensation natural air needs to flow throughout the property and cold spots should be insulated if possible. In severe cases plastering may be required.
